Using SharePoint for business intelligence, social intranets and mobility proved to be top of mind for 2011 Microsoft SharePoint Conference attendees, according to survey results released today by PointBridge, an IT consulting firm that specializes in building high-impact business solutions with Microsoft technology. This year’s conference took place October 3-6, 2011 in Anaheim, Calif.
PointBridge surveyed nearly 500 conference attendees to gain insight into how organizations are using their SharePoint investment currently and their plans moving forward in 2012. Respondents varied from business executives to developers and ranged from Microsoft Partners and vendors to organizations large and small.
The results showed that 32 percent of organizations today are bringing social to their current SharePoint intranet, highlighting the importance of collaboration via social tools. Supporting this notion, 28 percent of respondents said one of their organizations biggest areas of focus around SharePoint in 2012 will be around the social intranet.
“Now more than ever we’re seeing businesses fully maximize their SharePoint investment by implementing social intranets. Many organizations with existing social intranets or planning an implementation are responding to employee demand. Employees want the same ease of communication, connectivity and collaboration they have at home in the office and that’s where social intranets have flourished,” said PointBridge SharePoint Practice Manager Matt Morse.
Additionally, 16 percent of respondents said they’re using mobility with SharePoint today and 26 percent said mobility will be one of their organization’s biggest focuses around SharePoint in 2012.
“It’s clear businesses are responding to the changing market and employee demand. Focusing technology around mobility and social intranets are just two ways businesses are optimizing collaboration and utilizing their most valuable asset, their employees and their IP,” said Morse.
