Information Rights Management Accelerator

The PointBridge Information Rights Management (IRM) Accelerator ensures an organization’s ability to protect sensitive corporate information from both inside and outside the firewall. Microsoft® has provided customers new ways to help safeguard sensitive information, and PointBridge delivers that solution in a faster way.

The Information Protection Challenge
In today’s increasingly mobile, on-demand world, it is far easier to lose control of sensitive data than to contain it.  Information Rights Management (IRM) enables document-level encryption and establishes pre-determined security policies for Outlook email and Office documents. The IRM Accelerator provides the infrastructure to help organizations realize the benefits of this technology in a shortened time frame. The PointBridge IRM Accelerator combats:

  • Inconsistent or inaccurate security settings on corporate servers
  • Intentional or unintentional forwarding of sensitive emails
  • Disclosure of sensitive data caused by lost or stolen laptops and mobile devices
  • Critical information leakage through non-authorized equipment
  • Cumbersome security processes

Implementing IRM should be a part of an overall corporate strategy and culture designed to protect a company’s intellectual property.

The PointBridge Solution
Microsoft IRM is composed of Microsoft Office 2003/2007 Professional, Windows 2003 Rights Management Services (RMS), and the RMS Client for Windows XP. The PointBridge IRM Accelerator provides the RMS infrastructure required to leverage the IRM capabilities in Microsoft Office, including Outlook email and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007. The IRM Accelerator eliminates many security risks by preventing email forwarding, disabling print and forwarding capabilities of sensitive Word documents, and revoking rights for unauthorized users.

The IRM Accelerator is a fixed-time, fixed-price engagement that produces five deliverables:

  1. IRM enablement of one Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 server farm
  2. Development of up to four rights policy templates
  3. High-level plan & proof of concept for rollout of the RMS client for Windows XP Professional
  4. Knowledge transfer and training accompanied with design documentation
  5. A fully deployed single-server instance of Windows RMS

The engagement spans one week and provides organizations with the infrastructure that enables IRM for Office 2003 and 2007 documents, including Outlook email and Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 document libraries.
